‘CPP Will Stand’

-- Cummings assures

The political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Alexander B. Cummings, has assured that the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) will hold together despite the noise coming out of the group over leadership issues.

Recently there has been confusion in the CPP over an alleged tampering with its framework document. In that regard, Mr. Cummings said, “We will resolve our differences in the interest of the Liberian people. The CPP will therefore hold, and the CPP will win in 2023.”

Mr. Cummings gave this assurance at the occasion that marked the election of the standard-bearer to contest against an opponent in the selection of a standard-bearer to head the ticket of the CPP in the 2023 presidential election.

At a well-attended program in Monrovia, members of the Alternative National Congress from the fifteen counties elect their standard-bearer on September 28 to contest in the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) primaries, which is scheduled for a date to be announced.

Mr. Cummings was elected unopposed after partisans overwhelmingly cast their votes, favoring him as their standard-bearer. Out of the 116 delegates who voted, only 6 were invalid, while the remaining 100 votes were cast for Mr. Cummings. Thus, they declared him as the party’s candidate for the upcoming CPP convention.

The convention, held under the theme: ‘Real Change vs Second Chance’ brought together lawmakers including Rivercess Senator Wellington Geevon Smith, District 10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah, students, and well-wishers of the party.

Cummings, in his acceptance speech, promised to bring real change for Liberians if elected in the 2023 Presidential election.

“I am proud and very thankful to accept the democratic expression of the partisans of the ANC, assembled in this extraordinary National Convention, to allow me proudly bear the party’s standard-bearer against others in the CPP and ultimately against the failed, corrupt and incompetent leadership of President Weah in 2023,” he said.

“This thing, they na (are not) able. We will take it from them in 2023,” Mr. Cummings declared.

He promised to reunite Liberians both at home and abroad and to equitably share the country’s resources.

“All Liberians at home and abroad, we will welcome you with open arms to a new day of working together and to equally share not just Liberia’s problems but also Liberia’s solutions and riches.”

Cummings vowed to ensure that officials of his government work for the public and not for themselves.

“Today, we promise to bring honor by example to public service where public servants will work for the public and not for themselves. We promise to build a new and better future not by depending on others but by depending on ourselves to do the right thing the right way.”

Rivercess County Senator Wellington Geevon Smith, at the ANC Convention, vowed to support any candidate that the CPP will elect at its primary. He called on the four political leaders within the CPP to publicly apologize to the citizenry. “The standard-bearership of CPP is not an inheritance. CPP is the only hope for Liberians. I will support any candidate the CPP produces,” he said.
