The Association for the Advancement of Liberian Girls will be presenting awards in various categories to girls and women who have vigorously and with great interest taken Liberia and its people to greater heights of improvement.
According to the Association’s Facebook page, the deadline for submitting nominations for the awards is November 15, 2015. All citizens are invited to nominate women and girls who they believe have made outstanding contributions to society.
“If you are a girl or woman leader and an active force despite the challenges of gender inequality and rights limitations, and want to let the world know what you are doing or have done, the Association encourages you to get nominated,” read the post.
Women nominees of Liberian decent must be 18 years old or older by December 30, 2015, while young female nominees must be girls of Liberian descent under the age of 18 years old by December 30, 2015, according to the Association.
The women will be nominated in several categories in which they have excelled including outstanding humanitarian, entrepreneur, athlete, actress (television, stage, movie), singer, writer/novelist (fiction and non-fiction), journalist (television or radio), and arts and culture.
Young females will be nominated in the same categories (but separate from the women) in addition to the category of Outstanding Student, who should be an honors student consistently for 3 or more years.
The Association states that all selected nominees will be informed once the selections have taken place. The names of the nominees will be published on the association’s Facebook page for public viewing. A panel of judges will then make its final decision and the winners will be announced on the day of the event.
