Monrovia Consolidated School System Teachers Association (MCSSTA) has gotten quite upset with the system’s Superintendent, Adolphus Jacobs, for his recent statement on a local radio talk show that he is deeply connected and cannot be removed.
However, Jacobs, in his own strongly worded defense, disregarded claims by the MCSSTA’s leadership that his academic credentials are questionable. He has vowed to purge those teachers who he claims are bent on creating confusion within the system rather than keeping themselves busy in the classroom.
A recent rift between the office of Supt. Jacobs and that of the MCSSTA developed when the latter accused Jacobs of presenting ‘fake credentials’ during his confirmation hearing before the Senate Committee on Education.
At a press conference in Monrovia on Wednesday, the MCSSTA leadership headed by the secretary-general Varmah Gray, said based on Jacobs’ boastful statement, their decision to abort a planned strike action in demand of Jacobs’ resignation has been reversed and the strike will go ahead should he not resign in time or if nothing is done to remove him for his alleged “irregularities.”
According to Mr. Gray, when Supt. Jacobs returned recently from “an unknown location where he was buying time to stall his resignation or removal in relation to his false qualifications,” he again inflamed the situation by his utterances.
The MCSSTA further accused Mr. Jacobs of being “incompetent, ill prepared, savage, ineffective and lacking genuine education and leadership traits” to significantly enhance productivity in the MCSS. “To the contrary, he is a hustler seeking opportunity to mess up the system.”
MCSSTA alleged that Mr. Jacobs lied under oath to the former Board of Directors that he graduated from William V.S. Tubman High School in 1988. It was later revealed to members of the House of Representatives Committee on Education and Public Administration that he actually graduated from the R.C. Lawson and not Tubman High as spelled out in his curriculum vitae (CV).
The Association said Jacobs’ lack of a solid education has turned his administration completely into a dictatorship to the extent that his attitude has created negative reflections on the MCSS and the educational system of the country as a whole.
The Association has meanwhile condemned Jacobs’ statements on the talk show in the strongest terms saying his remarks were “diabolical and inflammatory.”
“Mr. Jacobs was being comical when he stated that he will replace all employees who start a go-slow action against his falsified academic documents,” the Association declared.
The MCSSTA reaffirmed its previous position that Mr. Jacobs lied under oath since he does not have the qualifications stated on his CV.
“As such, he should be replaced and taken to court in keeping with our laws for academic crime,” MCSSTA reiterated.
According to Mr. Gray, MCSSTA’s decision under the theme, “No Strike Action at MCSS Yet,” was based on their resolution to support President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s post-Ebola reconstruction, the intervention of other officials, but not for Mr. Jacobs whose aim is to destroy the MCSS and the education system before he leaves office.
