Indian businessman  Upjit Singh Sachdeva has promised to provide pipe borne water for the Monrovia Central Prison within a month.

Mr. Sachdeva made the disclosure on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 during his regular hot meal distribution program for inmates at the Monrovia Central Prison.

The Monrovia Central Prison currently holds over 1,000 inmates though the prison was built for only 300.

“I am committing here today that Jeety Trading Corporation will do its best to restore water to all the facilities. I am assuring you that before I come here next month for the regular meal supply, water will be restored,” Mr. Sachdeva said.

Mr. Sachdeva said during his previous visitation, he was informed by authorities about the water problem in the prison and he is committed to ensuring that water is supplied to various units.

Mr. Sachdeva said he believes that water is life and will ensure that inmates have access to water.

Mr. Sachdeva, who had been providing food for inmates over the last several months, said he was delighted about the progress of the monthly hot meal program.

He provided hot meals, soft drinks, water, 150 mattresses, 70 empty gallons and 75 buckets during his visitation on Wednesday. Mr. Sachdeva said his decision to give is inspired by the scripture that says “it's more blessed to give than to receive.”

According to him, he believes that the prisoners are placed behind bars for the crimes committed and they should get affectionate love from everyone.

Mr. Sachdeva urged his colleagues in the business community to extend help to the Monrovia Central Prison as prisoners there need urgent help and support.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sachdeva clarifies that food supply and materials are being done with funds from Jeety Trading Corporation and not through fundraising as speculated in the country.

Receiving the hot meals and materials from Mr. Sachdeva, the Head of the Bureau of Corrections and Rehabilitation, along with the Central Prison staff, lauded Jeety Trading Corporation for the continuous support.

“Jeety Trading Corporation has now become a partner to the Bureau of Corrections and Rehabilitation and we are now direct beneficiaries of Mr. Sachdeva's gesture. Every time we call on him, he makes it a duty to come,” the officer said.
