CAF WCL: 3 Teams to Participate in the WAFU A Zonal Qualifiers

Flashback: Deternine Girls celebrate their back-to-back league title

There may not be a better chance of Liberia being represented at the CAF Women’s League than hosting a zonal qualifier with just three teams competing.

The draw for the zonal qualifiers for the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League was held Wednesday at the Mohammed VI Complex in Rabat. Liberia women’s division champions, ‘Determine Girls, were placed in a group of three along with Senegalese champions USPA and Malian champions AS Mande.

The last edition, which saw four teams participate in the qualifiers, was hosted in Cape Verde and AS Mande emerged as winners to qualify for the final tournament. Host Cape Verde missed out as they finished bottom of the group.

WAFU A has nine member associations (MAs), namely: Liberia, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Cape Verde, Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, and Mauritania. But only the three MAs clubs passed the club licensing process and have registered for the qualifying tournament.

This time around, Determine Girls have the opportunity to play at home venues in front of home fans and a smaller amount of games to play in their quest to qualify.

The mini-qualifying tournament will run from August 17-21 and will coincide with the U17 WAFU A tournament that will also be held in Liberia. If the Liberian champions miss out on securing the qualification spot, they may not have a similar opportunity in the near future.
