In line with its commitment to promote the African culture and deepen its African footprint, the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Liberia on Friday, May 25, joined the world to celebrate the 2018 Africa Day across the 19 African countries of operations with the theme: “The Colors of Africa: Celebrating our Diversity.”
Africa Day is an annual event, dedicated to celebrate the diversity of the African continent, as well as to highlight the cultural and economic potential that exists on the continent.
The ceremony brought together dozens of employees and staff of the bank to celebrate the day in grand style as they dressed to work in a display of the best of Africa’s rich attire.
In a brief ceremony at the UBA Liberia Head office, the head of corporate communications, Mrs. Melody Ketter, who spoke on behalf of the Bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Olalekan Balogun said UBA is a core African bank with deep African roots that has continually supported the continent in various ways over the years, adding that the bank was proud of its African heritage.
She said that in line with UBA’s development initiative around the world and Africa, the bank has always deemed it appropriate to observe Africa Day. “Africa Day is being celebrated in all UBA offices across the nations and international offices worldwide as the Bank believes in showcasing the rich culture of Africa” she added.
Ketter stated that every year, staffs in all UBA subsidiaries go all-in to participate in this important event, which has become an annual lifestyle for the bank. It is no coincidence, she added, that the Bank prides itself as Africa’s Global Bank, because indeed, this is what the bank stands for, and it is manifested in its policies and activities.
“We at UBA celebrate Africa Day with the rest of Africa, we are Africa, United by one Bank, and it is important to note that just as Africa has come a long way, UBA has also come a long way in putting her footprints in Africa,” she declared.
This year David Ojo, head of Digital Banking and Johnetta Johnson of Bushrod Island Business Office were rewarded as best dressed respectively and took home cash prizes.
UBA’s celebrates Africa Day annually in line with the official celebration by African nations on the 25th of May, reiterating it’s long-held of rekindling the African spirit that drives the group’s vision to be a dominant financial services provider on the continent as it finances Africa’s emergence as a recognizable economic power.
