TOTAL Liberia has inaugurated a modern T-Air service station on Duport Road. Valued at about US$1 million, the state-of-the-art service station will provide services to the Duport Road area and its surrounding communities. The service station is ideally situated along the main Street on Duport Road, Paynesville.
The new Duport Road service station brings to 27, the total number of service stations TOTAL has built in nine counties in Liberia.
At the inaugural ceremony on Wednesday, December 10 Mr. Aaron J. Wheagar, Deputy Managing Director for Operations at the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), commended TOTAL for the project.
“LPRC appreciates TOTAL’s commitment to remaining in Liberia and continuing to invest during the Ebola epidemic,” said the LPRC Deputy Managing Director for Operations.
Mr. Wheagar commended TOTAL for choosing to remain in Liberia during the Ebola epidemic. He described as ‘unique’ the opening of another service station by TOTAL Liberia, particularly, in the densely populated Duport Road Community.
“This service station will add up to the number of jobs TOTAL has already created and increase the improved services the company is providing to the people of Liberia,” he stated.
Also speaking at the well-attended ceremony was TOTAL Liberia’s Managing Director Mr. Robert Fenech, who assured the public that TOTAL is in the country to stay.
“It has been a very painful and challenging times for everyone in Liberia because of the Ebola virus outbreak. But we are committed to remain in Liberia to help with the development of the country. I can assure you that Ebola will not stop TOTAL from investing in Liberia,” said Mr. Fenech.
The TOTAL Managing Director noted that the Duport Road project is a dream come true and a fulfillment of his company’s preparedness to remain the leader in the petroleum market.
“It has been a very tough time for everybody. We said at the beginning of the year that we would realize the Duport Road project by the end of 2014 and in spite of all the challenges we have been able to realize this project,” he said.
Mr. Fenech commended LPRC Management in particular and the Government of Liberia in general for creating the enabling investment climate for businesses to operate in the country.
He also congratulated the contractors for a job well done and TOTAL employees for ensuring that everything was put in place.
“This service station we are opening today brings employment directly to Liberians and we are hoping to open new service stations in Grand Gedeh and Harper, Maryland County, respectively, in the coming year,” Fenech declared.
Earlier, TOTAL’s Retail Manager Victor Wallace said TOTAL is keeping the promise and investing in Liberia’s future.
“The opening of this station on Duport Road is a demonstration of resilience by TOTAL amidst the Ebola crisis,” said Mr. Wallace.
“This is an investment in the future because as TOTAL builds these services stations, the company recruits young Liberian dealers and train them to take over these stations,” explained the TOTAL Retail Manager.
Wallace added: “It is important for all to reflect and recognize that TOTAL is here to serve Liberia.”
For his part, TOTAL’s Finance Manager Mr. Jonathan Mviteta said the Duport Road service station is important to him because it is the first station TOTAL has opened since his arrival in Liberia.
“I thank our dealers for holding our company together. I also thank the government for creating the business environment for us [TOTAL] to invest as we lead while others follow,” he said. TOTAL Liberia has set a benchmark to build 50 modern service stations across Liberia.
