A three-day high level “off site management retreat” with specific emphasis on fostering the agenda of the National Port Authority (NPA) has ended in the Port City of Buchanan with a call for management to implement several other projects.
The projects earmark by the NPA includes the repairing of major feeder roads, maintenance of dredging the port and to finalize the ongoing negotiation with investors in the port.
The retreat comes on the heels of plans by the current NPA management team to implement major projects the entity has initiated in line with government’s agenda for transformation and infrastructural development.
The retreat was held under the theme, “Changed Management through Evidence-based Approach.” Several of the top executives, including middle-level managers as well as officials of the Dock Workers Union of Liberia (DOWUL) attended the retreat.
Participants at the retreat, mainly heads of various departments of the NPA, in separate presentations, discussed relatable issues and the way forward aimed at accomplishing the core objectives and vision (best seaport in West Africa) of the port with an all hands on the desk approach and the involvement of policy makers, line managers and the entire work force.
NPA’s newly appointed chairman of the Board, Dr. Henrique F. Togba, who witnessed the working session of the retreat, expressed joy over what he called “the farsighted ambition of the management to move the entity forward.”
Dr. Togba then used the occasion to challenge the current management team and the work force always to harbor sentiments that will create a renewed commitment to duty if they want to keep the dream of the institution alive.
Also in remarks, NPA Acting Managing Director, David Williams thanked the new board chair and his co-workers for their support towards achievable strategies that are cardinal to the growth and development of the ports.
He said results from the retreat would be forwarded to the office of the President for review and endorsement.
The retreat was organized and supervised by NPA’s Deputy Managing Director for Administration Mr. Nyekeh Forkpa.
