The African Leadership Magazine, a leading United Kingdom UK-based magazine published by African Leadership UK, has named the Liberian Bank for Development and Investment (LBDI) Africa’s development Bank of the Year 2014. The award ceremony took place recently at the Dateline Hilton Americas in Houston, Texas, the United States of America. LBDI’s senior vice president for Finance Mr. Reginald Bropleh recently flew to the US to receive the Award on behalf of the Management sending a clear message that LBDI is on the brink of taking its rightful place on the international banking stage.
According to the African Leadership Magazine which focuses on bringing the best of Africa to a global audience and tells the African story from an African perspective, “the award is in recognition of LBDI’s pioneering efforts in introducing and implementing innovative banking products which has assisted small businesses and contributed to the growth of the economy of Liberia.”
Also honoring LBDI for excellent performance in Africa is the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus Inc. which recounted how LBDI has been instrumental in the creation and expansion of economic development opportunities for Africans.
In a resolution signed by the Chair of the Caucus, Dee Dawkins-Higler, the Georgia General Assembly, amongst other things, described LBDI as a global player who’s established banking relationships and partnerships have identified it as a proven leader in the banking industry worldwide.
For his part, the publisher of the African Leadership Magazine, Dr. Ken Giami in brief remarks thanked LBDI for the milestone achievement in Liberia, a country, he stated struggling to rebuild its infrastructure following years of brutal civil war. Dr. Ken noted that LBDI’s consisted financing of development projects is going a long way in improving the lives and well-being of ordinary Liberians struggling to rebuild their lives.
LBDI Management picked up the award just few weeks before the Bank acceded to the peer review mechanism of the prudential standard guidelines and rating system (PSGRS) of the Association of All African Development Finance Institutions (AADFI).
The PSGRS mechanism will help LBDI to be rated among other development finance institutions (DFIs) in Africa.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LBDI Mr. John B. S. Davies, III, thanked the African Leadership Magazine for independently following the Bank’s performance in the country and awarding it for same. Mr. Davies also thanked the Georgia General Assembly for recognizing LBDI as a global player in banking. He said the awards will further serve as an encouragement for LBDI to perform better.
The LBDI CEO however noted that the Bank will not rely on its laurels, but will ensure that access to finance is available for the Liberian populace.
