In 2013, JSPL expressed interest in investing in Mount Wologizi in Lofa, County Liberia. Jindal Power and Steel Company (JSPL) is an Indian-own company that openly declared its intention to bid for the iron ore green field of Wologizi in Lofa County.
JSPL is owned by Indian politician and Member of Parliament, Mr. Naveen Jindal. The company announced recently that it is prepared to participate in the bid process for the Mount Wologizi.
It is not yet clear how far Jindal has gone in negotiating its interest with the Liberian government even though company has promised to set up a power plant for the country.
Government insiders have confirmed JSPL’s declaration, but clarified that the company’s interest has nothing to do with the Indian government’s US$144 million loan to Liberia, which was announced in 2013.
The company’s management also clarified recently that its interest in Wologizi has no strings attached to the US$144 million loan India is giving Liberia. JSPL noted that it is an independent private company.
