At long last, all is now set for the official dedication of the illustrious Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) headquarters on Ashum Street.
The new CBL head office, which comprises a 12-storey building with an accompanying 5-storey modern parking garage situated on the block of Ashmun Street between Lynch and Buchanan, will be dedicated on Wednesday, July 22, by the Government of Liberia. The building is also said to include a state-of-the-art technology infrastructure to support its communication, data processing and security functions, among others.
The building, which construction began in 1988, was halted at the onset of the Liberian civil war, and remined so for 25 years. In 2013 following a competitive bid process the Bank, under the leadership of executive governor Dr. J. Mills Jones, entered an contractural agreement with the Liberian extension of an Italian firm, CESAF Construction Company, for the refurbishment of the building. The contract was valued at US$21 million.
The completion of the CBL headquarters is one of the hallmarks of Dr. Jones’ tenure as executive governor, which ends in March, 2016.
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf will dedicate the new edifice, along with members of the 53rd National Legislature, an array of government officials as well as members of the diplomatic community.
