In February, 2013 APM Terminals-Liberia celebrated two years of operations in Liberia with its Managing Director, Mr. Brian Fuggle, promising to make the Freeport of Monrovia a shining example of modern seaports in West Africa. Mr. Fuggle said his company’s Board of Directors had approved an additional US$20 million to develop the inland parts of the port, specifically the concession area. He disclosed that all of the structures currently standing within the concession area—including the company’s current head office—would be demolished and rebuilt to international standards. A few months later, the APM Terminals were completed and the 600-meter marginal quay at the Freeport of Monrovia was inaugurated. In 2010, APM Terminals secured a 25-year concession agreement with the government of Liberia to build the ports’ damaged 600-meter quay and marginal wharf.
