Breaking: Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence Elected President Pro-Tem

Grand Bassa County Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence has been elected as Senate Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate on a white ballot.

The election was held during the opening of the 55th Legislature. Prior to today's opening, Sen. Karnga-Lawrence secured the support of the majority members of the Senate, who had already signed a resolution.

Senator Karnga-Lawrence's overwhelming victory came to realization when her Grand Bassa colleague, Gbehzohngar Milton Findley, respectfully declined his nomination as Candidate for the Pro-temp position thus giving White Ballot win to Nyonblee Kangar Lawrence..

Her election to the post was a reward for not only leading a robust campaign that ensured victory for the Unity Party Alliance but also for standing with President-elect Joseph Nyuma Boakai when major allies abandoned the cause, putting his presidential ambitions at risk.

She becomes Liberia’s second female President Pro Tempore of the Senate after Grace Beatrice Minor, an Americo-Liberian politician who served as the first female President Pro Tempore of the Senate from 2002 to 2003. She was a senator for Montserrado County.

Kanrga-Lawrence served as chair for the Unity Party alliance campaign team that got Joseph N. Boakai and Jeremiah Kpan-Koung elected on November 14, 2023, and immediately declared her intention for the Pro Tempore seat.
