Application Process Open for MTN Liberia’s Y’ello Scholars Program

Lonestar Cell MTN’s Y’ello Scholars Internship and Graduate Trainee programs application process is now open.  

According to a release from the company, the Y’ello Scholars’ Internship Program offers university sophomores and juniors who are 18 – 25 years old the chance to demonstrate their abilities on cross functional and interdepartmental projects.

Graduating senior university students and recent graduates who have been out of university for no more than a year, are eligible for the Y’ello Scholars Graduate Trainee Program which runs for about 1 and a half years (12–18 months).

Lonestar Cell MTN’s Head of Human Resources, Johnett Horace stated: “The Y’ello Scholars program began in 2019 as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to give back to young Liberians through capacity building and on the job training.”

Veldis Markor, one of the first Y’ello Scholars from the 2019 edition, began his journey with Lonestar Cell MTN as a Graduate Trainee where he worked in the Enterprise Business, Information Technology and Sales and Distribution units.   

Based on his performance in the Graduate Trainees Program, Mr. Markor was nominated by HR to participate in the MTN Global Graduates program administered from South Africa where he also performed excellently.    

“Through the program I was able to expand my network with young people in South Africa, Estwatini, Ghana, Cameroon, South Sudan, Guinea, Guinea Bissau and Rwanda. The materials and training we received helped to mold us into well-rounded young people ready to transition into future executives or CEOs,” he said.  

Mr. Makor now works at Lonestar Cell MTN as a Revenue Assurance Analyst and encourages university students to apply.  

Bendia Wesseh, a 2020 graduate of the Y’ello Scholars’ Graduate Trainee Program, is now employed with Lonestar Cell MTN’s Marketing Department. As a former Y’ello Scholar, Ms. Wesseh said she has grown and learned so much.   

“My technical and interpersonal skills are way better than two years ago.  This program opens your mind to new and diverse things, it gives you a broader perspective on life and career. Lastly it creates opportunities for young people to develop as they transition into career men and women,” she said.

Applicants for both Graduate Trainee and Internship programs must be 18 to 25 years old at the time of application submission, computer literate, a Liberian citizen, and must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above. 

Those who meet the eligibility criteria should send a cover letter, a CV/resumé, a two-minute motivational video, a copy of their current control and grade sheets for the previous semester to yelloscholars.lr@mtn.com.  Applications for both programs close on May 20, 2022.   

Ms. Horace added, “With these programs, we are developing the next generation of young Liberian leaders, particularly in the field of telecommunications and technology.  This opportunity produces well-equipped, job-ready leaders prepared for careers within Lonestar Cell MTN and beyond.  “We are committed to transforming the lives of young people in Liberia.”
