Accident in Gbarnga Leaves Two Dead

A fatal accident, which occurred during the evening hours of yesterday in Gbarnga, Bong Country

A fatal accident, which occurred during the evening hours of yesterday in Gbarnga, Bong Country has reportedly claimed the lives of two people.

The tragedy occurred after the driver of a cargo truck lost control and veered off the road killing two passers-by.

The driver of the truck, according to eyewitnesses, lost control for unknown reasons and went off the right side of the freeway and ended in an embankment.

It then rolled over two times before flipping-over and landing on its right side. It then pushed the passers -- under the flip side -- killing the first victim, a female, instantly.

The second victim, a male, was rescued. However, after several attempts to revive him  lasted for about an hour, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Phebe Hospital. The age and the identities of the victims remain unknown for now.

However, the driver of the truck and his assistant survived the accident and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to the Police, the accident was said: “To have occurred when the driver of the cargo truck bringing goods from Ganta to Monrovia was attempting to turn at an intersection near Star Filling Station in Gbarnga around the Dominion Church Junction.”

An officer of the Gbarnga Police Detachment added that the truck driver and his assistant “sustained serious injuries.”

The accident caused serious gridlock on the road. According to eyewitnesses, the accident “Could be attributed to reckless driving because the driver engaged the junction with speed despite knowing it was near an embankment.”

“It was reckless and dangerous driving that led to this accident. The driver, apart from speeding on the road, also attempted to bend with speed; probably the heavyweight of the load weighed him and turned the truck over,” an onlooker claimed.

Meanwhile, the Police, however, managed to pull the car from the ridge with the help of another truck driver.  This way they were able to pull out the bodies under the truck.  The scene was one that poured out tears from the eyes as the heavy truck could not be lifted easily to relieve the victims from the excruciating pains they were undergoing.

The truck from the Chinese Road Construction company CHICO could not lift the cargo truck easily.  As it attempted to lift it, the cargo truck outweighed the other truck and fell back on the victims thus hindering rescuers from hauling the victims that were under the heavy weight.

After several attempts, eyewitnesses at the scene ran quickly to haul the second victim when the truck was lifted lightly by the other truck.
