2021 AFCON Draw Made in Cameroon

The AFCON tournament will now take place in Cameroon in January and February next year

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Tuesday, August 17, conducted the draw for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Yaounde, Cameroon.

The tournament will now take place in Cameroon in January and February next year after its postponement due to COVID-19.

A total of 24 teams were drawn into six groups of four teams with the first two teams in each group and two of the best third-place teams advancing to the Round of 16.

The competition was originally due to be held this year, but was pushed back to early 2022 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Several African football stars including Samuel Eto’o, Didier Drogba, Rabah Madjer, Asamaoh Gyan and Gaelle Enganamouit were some of the stars that were present at the draw ceremony in Cameroon.

Host Cameroon have been paired alongside Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Cape Verde in Group A, while Senegal, Zimbabwe, Guinea and Malawi were placed in Group B.

Group F has been described as the “Group of Death”, with defending champions Algeria, Sierra Leone, Equatorial Guinea and Cote d’Ivoire being paired together.
