2021-22 CAF Interclub Competitions: Liberia Representatives to Know Opponents in August

The CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup are annual continental club football competitions run by the CAF

Liberia’s representatives to the 2021-22 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup will know their opponents in the preliminary round of the CAF inter-club competitions in August, after the continental football body announced the date for the draws of the preliminary round.

LPRC Oilers will represent Liberia in the CAF Champions League, while Monrovia Club Breweries will represent Liberia in the CAF Confederation Cup, the second-tier competition of African club football, ranking below the CAF Champions League.

CAF has announced August 15, 2021 as the tentative date for the draws, while the first leg of the preliminary round will start on September 10, 2021.

Oilers sealed their ticket as Liberia’s representatives to the CAF Champions League for the second consecutive season after completing their back-to-back league title triumph during the 2020-21 Orange First Division league season.

During their last appearance in the competition, Oilers failed to cross the preliminary round when they suffered a 3-1 aggregate loss against Generation Foot of Senegal.

The Oil Boys secured a 1-0 win at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium, courtesy of striker Terry Sackor, but were subdued 3-0 by the Senegalese at the Stade Lat-Dior in Senegal.

Breweries are returning to the competition for the first time since 2016 after winning the LFA Knockout Cup (PetroTrade Cup).

In their last appearance at the Confederation Cup, Breweries put out an exceptional display when they defeated Algeria side JS Kabylie 3-0 at home in the first leg, but suffered a 4-0 away defeat.
