12 Referees Proposed for 2022 FIFA Badges

(L-r) Referees Hannah Moses, Sylvina Garnett and Tracy Cheyee are three of the four females among 12 referees nominated for FIFA 2022 badges.

The Liberia Football Referees Committee has sent to the FIFA Referees Committee the list of 12 match officials (four females and eight males) proposed for inclusion into the FIFA List 2022.

The submitted list, which comprises six referees and six assistant referees, has eight new entries.

Referee Jerry Yekeh, who earlier retired from his referee career in May of this year, has been replaced along with George Rogers, Liberia’s current most-senior assistant referee, Johnson Gbartea, Abraham Fahnbulleh, and Sekou Konneh.

No official reason has been given about the replacement of the other five referees.

Referees Hassan Corner, Sylvina Garnett, Moses Forkpah and assistant referee Joel Doe, are the four match officials maintained on the list.

The new referees nominated include Referees Love Whyee (F), Emmanuel Mensah, and Stanley Konah, Jr, while the assistant referees include Ephraim Grant, Tracy Chyee (F), Hannah Moses (F), Francis Bah.

According to FIFA Referee Committee guidelines, the proposed referees must be born on or before 31 December 1996 and assistant referees must be born on or before 31 December 1998 in order to ensure a minimum level of experience.

It further states that each candidate must be ranked based on the marks obtained for officiating games at the national level during the 12 months prior to being nominated to the list of international referees.

All nominated match officials must at least have passed a FIFA approved fitness test and a medical examination on or after 2 June 2021.
