Liberia: “Dead Fish Not For Consumption”

The management of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) says it has been informed that citizens of Palm Bush Community in Duazohn, adjacent to Silver Beach, were seen on September 21 cutting through a dead sea animal, believed to be a sperm whale, for consumption.

NaFAA urges members of the public, particularly coastal dwellers, to immediately desist from such acts as feeding on dead fish without knowing the cause of death, which could be extremely harmful to the population involved. These are ways in which diseases are spread from one person to another, leading to an epidemic.

Meanwhile, the management of NaFAA is working with other relevant institutions to ensure that the carcass is removed from the beach to prevent others from consuming the dead fish.
