Victimized women stand beside the debris of their homes

The Christian Association for Regional Development (CARD) paid a visit to the VOA community in Brewerville last week, where a fire incident occurred earlier this month.

The fire, which occurred on January 6, devastated more than 20 homes, leaving the dwellers, most of whom were women, displaced and without any personal effects such as clothing, victims tearfully told the Daily Observer.

One victim, Fodia Johnson, who lost her child in the fire incident that gutted their home, said it spread so quickly that she was unable to rescue her seven-months-old son.

Some of those affected were market women, who lost all of their goods in the fire, rendering them unable to provide for their young children and other family members.

The aggrieved victims have signaled an SOS call to the government, the Christian community and other humanitarian organizations to reach out to them with whatever assistance possible so that they can rebuild their lives.

CARD Executive Director, Edwina Avezaat, has expressed her empathy for the victims of the fire disaster and promised to help them to allocate assistance through her organization from those who may want to help.

Avezaat called on the larger business community and those who have love for humanity to provide help for the victims to enable them rebuild their lives, as they are an integral part of the economy.

No business would prosper if there were no consumers to make up the market, she pointed out, indicating that that the victims are part of the economy’s consumer base.

Items needed include clothes, mats, tarpaulins and sticks and anything that will help the victims start a new life.

Those wanting to make contributions to the effort may contact CARD at 06443375 and 06858002 and make donations.
