TRC Hashes Out Root Causes of Liberian Civil War

Comments

The TRC Report

I strongly agree that the entire war fought in Liberia was nothing more then a senseless war. But one thing they left out is "The greed for power." All most people ever think on is becoming politician before they can change things in Liberia and Africa as a whole but after they're given the opportunity, they only use it for their own enrichment. They never think that finding other means other than polity can make a difference. It's only sad that due to the high rate of illiteracy and poverty, our people continued to follow these guys lies by electing them into offices. I feel very sick and sorry every day when I see so called politicians raising up. IS POLITIES THE ONLY GUY DAMMED WAY TO MAKE THE DIFFERENT?

Well said lotsonj

Agree 100%

Senseless War

The TRC Report says that "chief among the immediate causes of the 14-year civil conflict were: mass illiteracy and poverty, corruption, ethnic rivalry, etc, etc" BUT did the outcome of WAR change any of that??? Poverty and illiteracy is still at an all time high (80%), the culture of corruption so ingrained that it is impossible to do business with government without bribing a low level government employee, and as for ethnic rivalry, a tribal mindset precludes a everything including one's character and qualifications for a govt job. The tribalist does not ask "Is this person qualified?" but instead "Is he or she Americo-Liberian or indigenous Liberian?" How asinine is that??

All this shows is that the 14 year war was nothing but a senseless war!!
