…Golden Image Award Recipient, Emma Metieh Glassco Tells Organizer

The recipient of the 12th edition of the Golden Image National Excellence Award has informed the organizer that such recognition will never give room for complacency among members of a “dedicated” team at the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA).

Emma Metieh Glassco said the honor has further motivated her and the team of technicians to do more in the supreme interest of Liberia.  The maritime professional and fisheries governance expert made the statement on July 28, at the corporate headquarters of NaFAA, when she was being officially pinned with the Award, decorated with a gold lapel.

Glassco was awarded as the winner and recipient of the National Excellence Award along with several local and international high-profile individuals due to her enormous contributions toward the current transformation of the Liberian fisheries sector. The Golden Image Award is an annual national Liberian meritorious award organized by Liberia Crusaders for Peace.

The ceremony at NaFAA corporate headquarters on July 28, completes the honor bestowed on the director of the fisheries management body.

Speaking at the event, Crusaders for Peace Executive Director, Ambassador Julie Endee, explained that in the past, the gold was attached to the award itself, but the organizers have decided to change the style for a genuine cause.

“Normally in the past, for the last 10 years, we always put the gold. The award is manufactured in Liberia. It comes with the wood, the map of Liberia. We have an 18-karat gold on the award itself. So, we award you with the gold always mounted on it. Some people don’t know it’s gold and sometimes it goes missing”.

In a brief remark, the honoree, Glassco, dedicated the award to the management and staff of NaFAA and applauded President George Weah for giving her the opportunity to serve.

According to her, there will be no room for complacency, despite the recognition.

“On behalf of the Fisheries Authority, we extend our heartfelt appreciation for this award. This is collective teamwork that led to this award as I’m just the front. It is for all of us that work tirelessly to bring us pride.

“I would also like to thank my President who has created the platform. I appreciate the President for his immense support. He did not only appoint me, but also lent me a lot of support. I just want to thank him for the opportunity”. There is going to be no atom of complacency in this team,” she added.

Meanwhile, the fisheries boss has also paid tribute to the Liberian media for elevating her work.

“Thanks to our friends in the media. You guys know I work with you and you’ve promoted our stories, because if we work and you don’t promote our work, the public won’t know what we’ve been doing”.

Madam Glassco has received several local and international awards for her exemplary leadership in the fisheries sector.
