A Liberian US-based humanitarian organization has donated assorted school materials to over 25 students in Bomi County.

The donation which was made by the ‘Deacon Telee Brown Giving Back Foundation’ benefited the Saint Magagga Catholic School, and Gertrude Yancy Public school in Klay District, Bomi County.

The items include uniforms, bookbags, copybooks, shoes as well as tuition valued at L$85,000.  Deacon Telee Brown in a statement said that the gesture is in fulfillment of a project title ‘from Street to School’ aimed at educating underprivileged children.

Deacon Brown added that the assistance is aimed at giving every Liberian child access to education, regardless of their situation.

“Even though the government and partners are awarding a lot of scholarship opportunities, a lot more of them are still in the streets and engaging in risky activities. Many of these children are in the streets due to the lack of support from their parents to have them in school,” Deacon Brown added.

“So as an organization, we deemed it very necessary to help our underprivileged parents, especially single mothers, support their children in school,” he added. “Some of these children are even selling on the streets in order to help their parents or guardians with feeding.”

Meanwhile, Deacon Brown says, the organization is also hopeful of including some of the kids on the streets in its Street to School scholarship program by next academic year. For their part, the beneficiaries including some of the parents, lauded Deacon Telee Brown for the timely donation of the school supplies, noting it would be used for its intended purpose.

“We want to say thank you to Deacon Brown, for registering us in school, and for giving us all these materials to enable us to be in school this year. Due to the lack of money, our parents have found it very challenging to send us to school every year. So, we want to thank Deacon Telee Brown and his family, including everyone who helped him to help us, we say, thank you plenty and God bless you,” the beneficiaries said.

It can be recalled that during the heat of the Coronavirus outbreak in Liberia 2021, the Deacon Telee Brown Giving Back Foundation made a massive donation of several COVID-19 preventive materials in four churches in Montserrado and Bomi counties.

The COVID-19 preventive materials which were close to US$87,000 included 1000 pieces of nose masks and 96 pieces of face shields. The beneficiary churches included the Destiny Tabernacle Church, Refuge Baptist Church, Barnesville Elshadai, and Apostolic Pentecostal church respectively.

The Foundation based in New York City, USA, was founded by Deacon and Mrs. Telee Brown and friends living in the US and other parts of the world including Liberia.
