Encourages Youth Groups to Apply

MONROVIA -- The Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY) has begun the regularization of youth and student groupings across Liberia. FLY said it is carrying out this exercise after the successful implementation of its mapping exercise and the establishment of the County Youth Secretariats in the counties has been concluded.

This venture, according to the youth group, includes the reviewing of Youth and Student Organizations’ capacities, contacts, locations, partners, etc. in each of the 15 counties. The exercise is being funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), ActionAid-Liberia, Talking Drum Studio/Search for Common Ground (TDS/SCG), Child Fund (CF) formerly Christian Children Fund (CCF), and Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS).

The Federation says the purpose of the exercise is to account for and legitimize all youth and student organizations in the country. “Now, all is well and set for the Membership Regularization and Application process which started since August 15 and will end on December 15,” a FLY release sent to our Youth Desk said.

FLY is also encouraging all youth and student organizations within Montserrado County to submit their required documents and payments to the organization’s National Headquarters on Camp Johnson Road in Monrovia, while youth and student groups in the counties can submit their required documents and others to their respective County Youth Secretariats on or before the stipulated deadline, for onward transmission to FLY’s headquarters.

The organization says its national and county offices will be open every week day to provide clarity on the process. “Only those organizations that have gone through the mapping-up exercise will be allowed to go through this exercise to avoid phony organizations in the process,” it warned.

“Information [on how to apply and the required documentation for youth groups interested in joining the federation] are available in all of the localities aforementioned and are accessible to all young people of Liberia including the general public.

The Federation of Liberian Youth will not adhere to any youth organizations that will not go by the deadline stipulated due to negligence on their part because this specified date will not be changed [or] extend,” FLY release concluded.
