Profile of Charming Ms. Davis -Liberia Representative at Miss Africa USA Pageant
USA Pageant

Published:  05 October, 2007

Hear Ms. Manyuan Saidia Reffell-Davis narrate her profile

My name is Manyuan Saidia Reffell-Davis and I was born in Monrovia, Liberia and moved to the United States just mere months prior to the start of the First Liberian Civil War (19891996) that was followed by the Second Liberian Civil War (19992003). The devastation caused by these wars has had profound impact on my life and is what inspired and motivated me to receive a B.A. in International Development Studies with a minor in French (2005 and competed as a 400 meter hurdler as part of the NCAA Women's Track and Field Team during my undergraduate career. I recently graduated with my first Masters in African Studies with a double concentration in Education and Political Science. I had the opportunity to spend a portion of my second year of graduate school interning in Washington DC for Voice of America Television for Africa (VOA News) and for the Society for International Development (SID-Washington).

Now that I have completed university, I am focusing more on my careers here in Los Angeles, California where, in addition to being a model/actress signed with two agencies based in Hollywood , I am also employed with Transportation Security Administration, a division under the Department of Homeland Security. My repertoire also includes being certified grant writer, personal trainer and member of Oasis Christian Center where I volunteer with their Global Missions Team to help build schools in developing countries in African and Latin America. I am active member of Reffell Education Foundation for Science Technology and the Arts (REFSTA) whose mission is to continue to build and improve the education system in West Africa. I have also joined forces with the Niapele Project - Sustainable Refugee Hope on their Continuing Education Initiative to benefit refugee children so that they can have hope for a sustainable future in countries like Liberia.

With all that I have accomplished there is always one underlying passion that drives me and keeps me focused in all that I do, my aspirations to work in Africa for Africa. I am very proud to be representing the Republic of Liberia and my intentions once I win the crown is to continue forward, utilizing the knowledge and skills I have acquired not only for Liberia but also to do what is in the best interest of Africa as a whole. It is up to each and every one of use do what is in our power to ameliorate the conditions that plague this region of the world. It is for this reason I am running for Miss Africa USA and it is in peace and in solidarity I thank you for your support as I embark on this incredible journey.

The pageant would take place on November 3rd 2006.
