An unregulated human settlement. Happy Corner Water Side
UNEP Strives to Save Liberia's Environment
By F. Momolu Dorley

Published:  09 November, 2006

Since the founding of Liberia, there has been little evidence that the environment has received the attention it deserves, neither has environment impact assessment (EIA) ever been a priority. Some glaring examples of the results of this costly neglect are pollution of the St. John River, unregulated human settlements such as West Point and Vai Town, unclean pits from mining and the construction of the Gabriel Tucker Bridge linking the Providence Island with central Monrovia, which retains the potential to be a major tourist destination.
