President Sirleaf Dispels Rumors over Ailment, Death

USA, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf had been out of the country for nearly three weeks, the longest time the 69-year-old Liberian Chief Executive spent out of the country so far since her inauguration in 2006. Though it had been announced that the President would have a medical break in the United States following a week visit to Europe, as soon as the President entered the US, two weeks ago, it was rumored in Monrovia that she was critically ill and later that she had died. However, on Saturday, President Sirleaf held a live phone-in interview with a couple of FM stations in Monrovia from the US, all in a bid to ascertain the veracity or otherwise in the rumors.
