Aliaune Thiam, popularly known as Akon

MONROVIA, Senegalese-born American musical star Aliaune Thiam, popularly known as Akon, is due to visit Liberia for the first time in mid-April this year.

The American super star, on his first African musical tour, is expected to arrive in Monrovia April 15, 2008 for a grand musical extravaganza at the refurbished Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports complex in Paynesville city.

The musician, who has gone multi-platinum and has won several Grammy Awards, is coming through the arrangement of a local GSM Company.

All arrangements to host the super star, Akon, have being concluded with his managers, local promoters have disclosed in Monrovia. The African-American star is coming with a 14-man delegation along with all of his musical equipment for the one night of entertainment at the SKD.

Akon is the son of an accomplished jazz musician Mor Thiam and was introduced to varied musical styles early on. “I grew up listening to all kinds of music, obviously I love soul songs, but I also like mixing in other types of music,” Akon confesses.
