A Liberian Music Festival expected to be an annual event will be held on July 18 in Monrovia. The musical fiesta is being organized by the Savoy Group Int'l, Inc. and will feature the best Hip Hop and Reggae artistes from East and West Africa.

Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai is expected to officially launch two Pan-African entertainment organizations tomorrow, Saturday, June 20, 2009. The launching ceremony will be held at the historic Centennial Pavilion on Ashmun Street, Monrovia, at 4:00pm. The two organizations, One Nation Africa and the Musicians United for Peace, Democracy and Development in Africa are collaborating with the Musician Union of Liberia (MULIB) for this ceremony which is expected to attract scores of renowned artists.

Veep Boakai Wants Liberians to Appreciate Artists

The Vice President of Liberia, Mr. Joseph N. Boakai, has urged Liberians to appreciate their locally-made music and artistes. He also advised Liberians to appreciate their own customs and culture, which, he said, could lead to nationalism. Vice President Boakai made the statement last week Thursday, April 9, 2009 when the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the popular 1980s show Balawala Malawala, Mr. Kekura Kamara, and Liberia's international reggae star, AB Swaray, paid a visit to the Vice President.

The upcoming National Excellence Awards, is on the verge of releasing the names of nominees from 17 categories in advance of its first annual event scheduled for Saturday, April 18. As the April 4, 2009 deadline to nominate draws near, sources close to the NEA Secretariat say that the response from the nominating public is quite dynamic, likened to national elections without the extra politics. “People are proud to actually nominate those who they truly believe in, without solicitation or trade-offs from either side”, the source said. “Through this exercise, we are learning that, all politics aside, people know who their real heroes are; those who inspire them.”
