Liberia: “Taxes from Nimba Will Remain in Nimba”

The Standard Bearer of the Collaborating Political Parties CPP), Alexander Cummings has assured Nimbianians that, unlike other governments, when elected as President,he will ensure that taxes generated from Nimba County will be left in the County to meet  the developmental aspirations of its people.

“When I’m elected President on October 10, I will ensure that every dollar generated in taxes here will remain here. A cent will not be taken away,” Cummings said during a campaign rally in Nimba.

Cummings said Nimba is one of the biggest hubs of economic activity and revenue generation, but successive administrations take away from Nimba every cent leaving the county in a state of need for basic social services, while the vast majority linger in protracted suffering and poverty.

He said a CPP Government will  reverse the trend of taking revenue from rural Liberia for use in Monrovia, as an integral part of its decentralization policy, which will ensure rural inhabitants have access to social services, including better schools and hospitals, as well as good roads to ease the hardships.

Cummings gave the assurance on Wednesday, October 4, in Kpein Town Nimba County, while on the last leg of his campaign tour of Bong and Nimba Counties.

In Dinganmon Town, District #2, Nimba County, Cummings dedicated a mini market erected by CPP Representative Aspirant Mr. Nyahn G. Flood, and named the facility in honor of  Mrs. Teresa Cummings, with hundreds of citizens in attendance. The CPP Standard Bearer spent the night in Saclepea.

On Thursday, October 5, Cummings, accompanied by CPP National Chairman Musa Bility, attended a major political rally in Tappita, where he was accorded a rousing welcome and presented a statement of endorsement by hundreds of Partisans, supporters, sympathizers and well-wishers who chanted slogans like, “Our real pa has come, our step-pa in worry, say no to kush."

The endorsement ceremony, attended by nearly 4,000 Nimbianians included, traditional elders, as well as inter-religious, youth and women groups,  the Widow Association and Motorcyclists.

A spokesperson for the Tappita Youth group reaffirmed their unflinching support to the CPP Presidential bid, noting that "Nimba is not a  poultry farm,"  controlled by a so-called “godfather.”

He denounced the lack of Vocational training school, which he said, is pushing the majority of youths to motorcycle business as the only means to earn a livelihood.

A spokesperson for the Widows Association, with membership of nearly 300, lamented the difficult economic conditions, and the lack of jobs and opportunities for the thousands of youth after graduation from high school.

She pleaded with the CPP Standard Bearer  to consider the supreme interest of suffering masses upon his ascendancy and not neglect them, as current and past leaders have done.

In remarks, Mr. Cummings expressed gratitude for the rousing welcome and the huge turnout of citizens to reaffirm their allegiance and support to his Presidential bid.

The CPP Standard Bearer said, when elected, he will not disappoint the strong desire of Liberians for real change.

He said his primary focus will be to revamp the ailing economy, create decent paying jobs, fix the deplorable road conditions, and restore basic social services including improved health care and the  educational system.
