Right before the very eyes of president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and after only spending less than a month in camp in what should be a six-month training spell, the locally based Lone Star team got a major jolt when they were drubbed 2-0 by their Nigerian counterparts on Wednesday, February 15, at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS).

Under the guidance of 1994 Nations Cup winner, Captain Stephen Keshi, the Nigerians were physically austere and technically superior as they got their goals all in during the first half in a 30 minute spell through rampaging front man Mba Sunday in the 8th and 38th minutes.

Standing in disbelief, Lone Star’s Italian coach, Roberto Landi, watched from his technical area as the Nigerian side ran rampant in a match that generated much excitement in the early and latter stages.

But just how did the players of the red, white and blue outfit fare on the day is what were are keen to bring you.

Saylee Swen- The towering LPRC Oilers short stopper was blameless for the two goals conceded. He was accurate and quick off his line during the most part of the contest. His distribution was cool, but at times he stood accused of not effectively dealing with aerial crosses. Rating: 6/10

Alpha James- The versatile Barrack Young Controllers (BYC) defender was a misnomer in the melee and had to be substituted in the first half. His tackles were poor, rarely made overlapping runs and did not show much desire. The lad is quite a promising player though, but on this day he was not at his usual best, which cost his side a whole lot. Rating: 3/10

George Gebro- Still unattached for close to two years now, the Captain was very accurate under pressure but not lethal in attack. He still proved to be a tough marker as his uncompromising tackles helped his side a great deal. His diagonal balls too were a forte, but he was not rapidly venturing forward in providing the cleverly measured crosses for teammates in the final third. Rating: 6/10

Solomon Wesseh- despite his side loosing by a two-goal margin, the industrious LPRC Oilers reliable back four member, who can also serve as a balance midfielder, was his side’s best performer. His precision timing, neat and strong tackles, coupled with his aerial prowess, made his side worthy of second best. He showed great desire and spirit in keeping the reins on his opponents and moved in various parts of the defense with much grace and elegance. Rating: 7/10

Teah Dennis- a mere shadow of his usual self. The form of the BYC rearguard stood in complete contrast to his stellar form against Cape Verde and was to some extent a below par performer. His aggressive tackling went into oblivion, as such was not visible. The former Oilers man was not involved with much engaging but was interested in picking up the crumbs as he preferred to operate in a zonal style, defending where the player would sit deep and allow the opponent to come in his direction or zone before throwing in a tackle. His reading of the game was good though, but his inability to provide long balls upfront when his side was switching from defense to attack was another problem in the ex- Breweries man’s game. Rating: 4/10

Martin Kendue- To a large extent the Mighty Barrolle holding midfielder operated in a great style except that he did not initiate his side’s build up quickly. His passes, especially during build up, were pleasing on the eye, but too many passes in the defensive third, where he was the fulcrum between the defense and attacking midfield made his side lack urgency and was too slow in the build up. Though substituted lately he won a plethora of tackles too and showed his usual calmness and work ethic. Rating: 6/10

Isaac Pupo- The unattached playmaker who recently had stint in Sweden tried to ignite the game with his trademark defense splitting passes, but not to much effect as he was often outnumbered in the middle of the park where the visitors had four harder workers but mainly two holding players. They tried to neutralize the ex- Breweries man in order to have a foothold on the match. ‘Zola’, as he is widely known, had his skills on his side as he performed some tricks; but the aggressive nature of the opposition took him out and he had to be substituted during recess. Rating: 5/10

Soto Roberts- the Oilers winger did lot of running but not to much effect. His cross shots were not really threatening, and he failed to get the life line for the Lone Star when he failed to put the ball beyond the reach of the onrushing goalkeeper in the dying ambers of the tie. One major plus to his game were his recovery runs. Rating: 5/10

Ansu Toure- the unattached winger was not really fed in terms of balls going in his direction, as play down the left channel was relatively neglected. Nonetheless, he showed that with more balls his vast speed combined with sublime skills, any opponent can be subdued. One problem with him though was that he hung onto the ball a lot and was slow in releasing teammates and his recovery runs were questionable. Rating: 6/10

Alex Whittomre- serving as one of his side front runners in their usual 4-4-2 formation the Oilers man was a surplus to requirement as he was not threatening in the final third. To make matters worse, his forte was not utilized, as there were no crosses in the box which he could latch onto with his great heading ability. His runs were uninspiring and he lacked balance. It was thus no surprise when he was substituted during the interval. Rating: 3/10

Somah Baysah- the Watanga FC attacking midfielder who was used as one of the attackers had a very patchy game as he toiled, ran and made some improvisation for the entire 90 minutes. Virtually playing off the front man like in a 4-4-1-1 or a 4-5-1 formation, the technically gifted player lacked much service as his back was often turned to the opponents’ goal, which made it increasingly difficult to control the aerial ball sent in his direction. He showed promise too with his lovely skills but lacked quality supply of passes. Rating: 6/10

Trokon Zeon- coming on for James in the first half, the LISCR full back brought some stability in defense. He proved to be a fearless challenger of the ball, and though he was not offense-oriented, his powerful diagonal balls made him have an impact in the match. Rating: 5/10

Marcus Macauley- the LISCR newly signed player, who replaced Pupo, added something to the match as his side looked more organized in terms of their passing game. But there was still not much technical aggression and urgency as the Nigerians relied on their two-goal cushion. Rating: 5/10

Leon Power- coming on for Toure, the BYC winger tried to add some spice to his side’s attack but took too long to get into the game in picking the pockets of the opponents. His recovery runs were good and he tried to settle in but to not much effect. Rating: 5/10

Vitalise Sieh- the aerial balls played by his midfielders made him lack service as the LISCR man did not ignite anything special. He showed strong runs though, but there were not a quality supply of passes to him, which kept him out to a large extent. Rating: 4/10

Gideon Williams- the diminutive LISCR midfielder who came on in the dying embers of the game was a delight to watch and should have being introduced early on. His incisive passing, good work ethic and over all desire made him have a major impact on the game. He managed to tee up Soto in a cleverly measured manner but the latter failed to pull the trigger in the right manner for the tally reducer. The lad was a key substitution and showed hunger, enthusiasm and aggression in the short spell he was in the game. Rating: 6/10   (Edited By Wleh Bedell)
