Last Wednesday, at ATS, the Stephen Keshi’s homegrown Super Eagles, whipped the Roberto Landi’s boys 2-0, courtesy of Sunday Mba’s strikes.
The Sunday’s game is the preliminary rounds of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Club championship. The CAF tourney brings to the fore 51 club teams from 40 associations and countries.
According to reports, the LISCR FC, under the guardians of former Lone Star player and coach Frank Jericho Nagbe and assisted by another former Lone Star player and Coach Vava George, has been in camp for the past two months, at the LA Best Hotel in Kakata Margibi County. The match is the club first international engagement since its formation in 1995.
Reports further said the team would remain there until the second leg which is scheduled for March 3, 2012 in Accra, Ghana.
Those in camp include, players Abel Horton, Adolphus Blamo, Abraham Kamara, Daniel Woto,Emmette Wleh, Emmanuel Tarpeh, Sunday Sieh, Farmolu Kamara and Eujay Rady.
Others are players Zayzay Kollie,Pokah Roberts, James Richardson, George Weah, Namie Yancy, Mohammed Varney, Michael Jeasue, Sossa Garel and Milton Smarth.
Vatalie Sieh, Gideon Williams, Marcus Macauley, Trokon Zeon, Joshua Morris and Alvin Dixon who are on the national team camp will join the team following the Liberia versus Nigeria match.
“LISCR FC is calling on its fans, supporters and soccer lovers to come with their Vuvuzelas, drums and Sasa and cheer LISCR Fc to victory on February 19, 2012 at the ATS,” P. Numennie Williams, the Director of Communication and Public Relations of LISCR FC said.
Referees for the match are expected to come from Morocco while the Match Commissioner would come from Gambia.
Tickets prices for the match are as follow: VIP-US$20, Around VIP- US$5, Stadium Wing-L$150 and Around the Field-L$100.
Meanwhile, a 32 man Berekum Chelsea delegation is expected to arrive in the country on Saturday February 18, 2012. The delegation includes 20 players, Seven Technical men, three management members and three journalists.
It can be recalled, the President of LISCR FC, Mustapha Raji told the Daily Observer in an exclusive interview that LISCR FC is “unstoppable” and his “faith” is based on the caliber of the team’s players.
The LISCR FC boss also expressed his confidence in the team’s coaching staff, led by two of Liberia’s most decorated coaches, Frank Jericho Nagbe, Sr., and Viva George.
“We are hopeful of ably representing Liberia in the CAF Champions League… the players will be comprised of about three nationalities: Liberia, Benin and Guinea…and we are confident in our technical team headed by an internationally known coach Frank Jericho Nagbe and assisted by another good coach, Viva George,” Mr. Raji said.
According to CAF’s schedule, LISCR FC will host Ghana’s Berekum Chelsea between February 17 and 19 on the first leg, while the second leg will be played in Accra, Ghana, between March 2 and 4.
Berekum Chelsea FC is the champion of the Ghana Premier League and is based in Berekum, Ghana.
The technical team of the top Ghana football club is headed by a Dutchman, Coach Hans Van Der Plum, and assisted by a Ghanaian, Yusuf Abubakar.
“Besides the good performance of the technical team, one of the techniques we used to encourage the players to clinch the championship is the ‘Win’s Bonus.’ And we hope to triple it in the CAF Championship League to be unstoppable,” the LISCR Boss opined.
The 2012 CAF Champions League will be the 48th edition of Africa's premier club football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and the 16th edition under the current CAF Champions League format. The winner will participate in the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup, and play in the 2013 CAF Super Cup.
