VP Boakai Stresses Agricultural Development in Liberia

Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai says the future of Liberia depends its agricultural sector, which he described as the country’s best bid for growth and development.

 

Vice President Boakai made the remarks at this year’s IFAD Governing Council Meeting in Rome, Italy. Ambassador Boakai represented President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf at the meeting.

 

He addressed the forum on the Theme: “Strengthening Investments in Agricultural Research and Enhancing Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Agriculture.”

 

He said Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has provided assistance to Liberia’s agriculture sector in the areas of increased crop production, capacity building, among others.

 

VP Boakai indicated that Liberia’s presence at this year’s IFAD Governing Council Meeting was significant to enhancing the country’s agricultural development and the strengthening of its partnership with IFAD and others.

 

Other members of the Vice President’s delegation to the meeting include, Agriculture Minister, Florence Chenoweth; the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Agriculture, Cllr. Frederick Cherue of River Gee County; and Mr. Sam Stevquoh, Chief of Staff to the Office of the Vice President.

 

The 35th Session of the IFAD conference was held from February 22-23, 2012, in Rome, Italy, a press release issued, by Isaac C. Yeah, Minister Counselor for Press and Public Affairs, Liberian Embassy in Paris, France, pointed out.
