Faith Clinical Orthopedic Rehabilitation Center ( FACORC), established more than a year ago, has been providing clinical treatment for children suffering from the disease.
Club foot is a physical deformity commonly referred to locally as “turtle foot.”
Speaking at the launching, held at the Monrovia Christian Fellowship recently, Liberia’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Bernice Dahn, assured the institution of the Liberian government’s commitment to assisting local organizations in the health sector.
Dr. Dahn promised the government’s and its development partners’ financial support to FACORC and other organizations providing health care services to Liberian children – especially those who suffering from physical deformities.
The Liberian health official lauded FACORC for its readiness to treat such deformities and urged the organization to submit to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare a comprehensive list of its priorities for possible assistance.
The initiative was also aimed at buttressing the government’s health care delivery efforts.
The executive director of FACORC, Augustine Chiwolo, commended the government for its pledge to assist the organization and said the NGO has been striving to help restore the health of children victimized by club foot disease, as well as bring hope to them and their families.
Mr. Chiwolo said FACORC, as a faith-based non-profit institution, has successfully treated twelve out of the seventeen club foot cases received since its establishment.
The organization has established sub-offices in Gbarnga, Bong County and Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.
