The cause of the fire has not been disclosed and no casualty was reported.
It took the intervention of the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) to bring the situation under control.
The fire, according to eyewitnesses, started around 2pm.
Eyewitnesses, who spoke with the Daily Observer, said the fire started from the 7th floor before swiftly moving down to the 3rd floor.
“Look, my brother, it was not easy to stop the fire from spreading to the entire Ministry. We had to combat it with our bare hands [fetching and pouring water] because this Ministry does not have a single extinguisher that can prevent fire outbreak,” a female employee said.
Speaking to journalists yesterday at the fire scene, Alex Dickson, deputy director of LNFS said the fire started from the technical room of the Ministry.
“Our men are trying to bring the situation under control. This is a serious issue because the fire started from the technical room before moving to other parts of the building. We only took ten minutes to put the fire off,” Dickson said.
According to director Dickson, his team of investigators will soon commence a probe to establish the cause of the fire.
“We are going to conduct an investigation into the matter and afterward we will inform the general public,” director Dickson said.
