Reports emanating from Nimba County have it that a 17-year old girl has died after allegedly undergoing the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the town of New Yourpea.
The practice, according to anonymous sources, continues to spread across Nimba County, Northern Liberia.

Security Sector Budget to Be Increased

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has vowed to increase the budget for the security sector, including the Liberia National Police (LNP) in this coming budget year.
She stated that the past budget year was a tough one “because of the elections, because of the need for added security and other priorities. So those things constrained us a bit.”

Despite the last-minute intervention by a Ghanaian based sanitation company Zoom-Lion to clear the volumes of stinking garbage before the Christmas celebrations at the Red-light Market,
up to the eve of the Christmas celebrations, sanitation trucks and other equipment were seen clearing the stench of mountains garbage at the Red-light Market in Paynesville.
