County Meet Veteran Finds Heart’s Desire

It was a celebration culminating the chance meeting of two young lovers, more than ten years ago, when the young man was a star player in the annual County Meet and the young woman was out there supporting her county, morally.

“I saw her after winning the match over Sinoe County,” Abraham Cooper (Nyonkon) who was then playing for Cape Mount County told a gathering of well-wishers, friends and family members at the Republic Hotel last Saturday, in Logan Town, Monrovia. It was during the wedding ceremony with Ms. Irene Nivile, who is now Mrs. Irene Cooper.

2 Electric Shock Victims Out of Danger


Georgia Blazers basketball coach Nathaniel Patten, father of Edward Grimes, 19, popularly known as Trokon on Warren Street (Monrovia), who suffered an electric shock, along with his manager, Charles Swaray, last week Wednesday, are out of danger.

“My son Trokon is back home,” Coach Patten told the Daily Observer last Friday. “He is doing fine.” The incident took place on last Wednesday, April 8, when Trokon attempted to remove live wires that had knocked his manager off, from his body and he was also knocked down.

Ex LISCR FC Winger Dies

One of the first 33 players of LISCR FC, Bill Cooper, alias Biggie, has died at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Sinkor, Press Officer Numennie Williams disclosed on Sunday. He was 33.

Williams said the former winger died on Friday, February 20 from kidney failure, quoting medical reports, and has since been buried on Saturday, February 21, in Barnersville.

Prior to his death, Cooper sought treatment at Mawah Clinic, in Vai Town.

Ex-SWAL Boss Gets FIBA Post

Africa`s basketball governing body, FIBA - AFRIQUE has appointed Liberian sports commentator Fombah Kanneh on its Media Committee.

FIBA – AFRIQUE took the decision recently from its extraordinary Zone 3 Congress held in the Ivorian Capitol Abidjan.

Kanneh is the youngest appointed on the nine-man committee charged with responsibility to work with the media to promote basketball across Africa, along with the responsibility of working with national federations.

At a program in which the secretary general of the LFA, B. Alphonso Armah clarified wrong impressions by the members, the gathering recognized Weah’s contribution and wished him more happiness to come.

Commenting on Weah’s exceptional success in Europe, Armah said since Weah and many of his colleagues burst on the sporting scene without too much digging, there is every chance that once youth football gains necessary support, such caliber of players can be unearthed for Liberia in the future.
